Three buckets — each tracked independently

Most Texas resident agents and adjusters need 24 total hours. Some license types require only 10. Whatever your total requirement, all three buckets below must be satisfied within it.

Total CE Hours

24 hrs

Required every 2 years for most license types. Some limited licenses require 10 hours. Funeral Prearrangement requires none.

Ethics Hours

3 hrs

Included within your total — not added on top. It must be specifically TDI-designated as Ethics on Sircon.

Ethics requirement →

Classroom-Equivalent (CLEQ)

12 hrs

At least half of required hours must meet the CLEQ standard under 28 TAC 19.1009(h). Not every online course qualifies.

CLEQ explained →
The checker tracks all three independently. Completing the required total hours is not enough on its own — you must satisfy ethics and CLEQ within that total.

Texas CE renewal, plain English

Is this a regulatory tool or an official TDI resource?
Neither. InsuranceCEFinder is an independent planning tool that estimates your likely CE gap based on your inputs and official Texas rules. It helps you interpret the requirements — Sircon is the final source for your posted transcript status and renewal eligibility.
What is classroom-equivalent (CLEQ)?
A CLEQ course meets the TDI legal standard under 28 TAC 19.1009(h): at least 4 interactive multiple-choice questions per hour, a 70% score to advance per section, and identity authentication. Not every online course qualifies — verify CLEQ status on Sircon before enrolling.
Do ethics hours add to my 24-hour total or are they part of it?
They are part of it. For most licenses, 3 of your 24 hours must be ethics-designated. A single course can count toward both ethics and CLEQ if it is approved in both categories.
What happens if I renew late?
TDI automatically assesses a $50 fine per missing CE hour at midnight CT on your expiration date. The $500 cap applies to licenses expiring on or after June 1, 2018. If not resolved within 90 days, your license is inactivated and you must apply for a new one — not reinstatement.
How long does it take for completed courses to post to my transcript?
CE providers have up to 30 days to report completions to Sircon. TDI recommends completing CE at least 30 days before your expiration date. If hours are still missing after 30 days, contact your provider first.
